Concept

Seeding Stillness is a modular urban intervention designed to bring calm, shade, and moments of pause into overheated and overstimulated city environments. Inspired by the form and symbolism of the poppy flower-  long associated with rest, restoration, and quiet introspection, the project explores how public space can support emotional as well as physical well-being.

The installation combines seating and a rotatable shading system, allowing users to adapt the structure to changing sunlight conditions. Its compact footprint makes it suitable for dense urban contexts where space, shade, and softness are often lacking.

At the core of the project is an experimental material approach using recycled fibre-reinforced polymers (rFRP). By repurposing FRP waste- typically difficult to recycle and often discarded-  the project transforms industrial leftovers into durable, tactile architectural elements. This process not only reduces material waste but also challenges conventional perceptions of composite materials, positioning them within a more circular and design-driven narrative.

Blending craft-based production with scalable potential, Seeding Stillness operates between prototype and system- proposing a new model for sustainable, adaptable urban furniture that integrates environmental responsibility with poetic form.
